Kathleen's Green Thumb began 6 years ago in 2006. Owner Ray Green, had grown up with Victory gardens at home and worked each year for his mother, selling roses, pumpkins & Christmas trees on Touhy Avenue. With the help of his father, mother and cousin, Ray opened Kathleen's Green Thumb Garden Center.

Carrying on the family tradition to the third generation, Katherine and her brother Keefer worked for their dad throughout their school years, every summer and through the busy Christmas seasons until they graduated from college and moved on to their own careers.

Starting with the original business, selling annuals, perennials, vegetables, and soil, Kathleen's Green Thumb expanded the Garden Center’s offerings over the years, adding Trees & Shrubs, Fountains and Garden Statuary, and the Greenhouse.

Word quickly spread of the quality and selection of plants; and of the helpful & instructive employees at Kathleen's, and customers came from all over the city, suburbs and surrounding states. When local residents of Chicago moved out to the suburbs, they return to Kathleen's each spring for their plants, flowers and vegetables.
